Nice cakes, particularly the chocolate slab and the banana cake. |
- Value for money: expect to pay around £45 for the champagne afternoon tea, and around £35 for alcohol free version (but why would you?): 8/10
- Catering for dietary requirements: we phoned ahead three times but they still forgot about our gluten free meal. However, they made fresh bread and scones, gluten free. made the whole meal a bit late though. 8/10
- Atmosphere: in a rather large greenhouse (old station waiting area) - the high roof means that any noise travels around; was quite a relaxed atmosphere though. very convenient for St Pancras station; 7/10
- Friendliness of staff: very friendly, although could do with some tray-carrying re-training 8/10
- Poshness of loos: very posh indeed - lovely hand-soap and proper individual towels to dry your hands. the doors to the toilet are a little low though, which was rather strange - somewhat reminiscent of a wild-west saloon. 9/10
- Volume of food: mountains, because we chanced our arm and asked for more (which we were duly presented with). worth noting that they do not provide boxes for you to take leftovers home. 10/10
- Freshness of bread: a bit stale around the edges - seemed as if they had been sitting on a plate for a while before they found their way to us. 5/10
- Sandwich fillings: rare beef was lovely, as was the smoked salmon. Egg was a bit tangy. 7/10
- Cakes: chocolate slab delicious; two shorts of cake - banana and something else (was too full to try it); macaroons - very sweet; nice little seasonal tart with a raspberry on the top; very good miniature scones - we were so full by the time they arrived that we couldn't finish them all. 9/10
- How far you can push your luck without getting thrown out: quite a long way, it seems... 9/10
- How far in advance should you book: 4 weeks should be ok if you want a weekend booking - it's unlikely you will get a table if you just turn up at the weekend.
- Dress code: casual - jeans acceptable.
- Any other important things to note: you can access the hotel through the station concourse - useful if you are coming by train or tube, particularly if it's raining.
- Chances of spotting a celebrity: zero - unless they happen to be passing through on their way to the Eurostar.
